The School Governance and Getting Involved

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learn more about Liberty Primary School. If you want to make a heartfelt difference, joining our Trust Board or contributing to our local governance structure is an excellent opportunity for you. Our Trust Board is composed of compassionate individuals dedicated to utilising their professional skills and expertise to enhance the educational journeys of all the young people we support. By getting involved, you can play a vital role in transforming their lives and helping them achieve their full potential, ensuring that every child you come into contact with has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Liberty School is a private Christian faith-based primary school in Leeds, serving children aged 4 to 11. Established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) LBG, theschool passionately emphasises a holistic British curriculum infused with Christian values, creativity, and academic rigour. It seeks to fill a vital market gap for value-driven education while ambitiously expanding its operations, enhancing its infrastructure, and offering scholarships—building a diverse, high-performing educational institution that empowers every child to thrive.

We learn when we walk in love as children of light and wisdom.

Our vision is based on James 2:12

James calls this law of love “the perfect law of liberty”. The Law of Love is the Law of Liberty.

At Liberty School, we nurture and support every learner in their educational pursuits as they embark on their academic, spiritual, and social journeys. Our goal is to drive dynamic growth and expansion through personal and professional ambitions that align seamlessly with the company's mission. We base our work on God’s love and promote faith to help everyone succeed. Like a family, we support our pupils' growth while maintaining a strong connection with them. We engage with our community to provide a strong curriculum and respect individual diversity.

  1. Our Christian values guide our actions, ensuring that everyone feels valued and respected, reflecting the faith foundation of our school. We believe that every child is special and deserves care and support, regardless of their background.
  2. Central to our mission is the steadfast conviction that education is fundamental to transforming lives. By eliminating barriers and creating access to more opportunities, we empower individuals to overcome challenges and reach their full potential

Liberty receives its funding directly from its customers and funding providers. It makes its own financial decisions and runs more like a business than a maintained or Local Authority school. Liberty has a CEO and a senior management team responsible for managing the highest levels of the school within the Trust.

The board of trustees is responsible for overseeing the entire school trust. The trustees can delegate the daily operations of the school within the trust to its governing board. The school is a Community Interest Company (CIC) Limited by Guarantee (LGB), which is a charity that addresses matters specific to the school for the benefit of the community.

As a charity limited by guarantee, Liberty School:

  1. Ensure Transparency: Maintain open decision-making by sharing meeting minutes publicly.
  2. Maintain Financial Responsibility: Conduct audits and provide regular financial updates.
  3. Comply with Regulations: Adhere to laws governing charities and education.

Trustees are a type of school governor and form the board of trustees for Liberty School. Their primary responsibilities include:

  • Set the strategic direction of the trust
  • Oversee the trust’s financial performance
  • Hold senior school leadership to account

The school's governing board has three primary responsibilities. Trustees, on the other hand, operate at a more strategic level. They manage the school’s strategy and financial matters within the Trust. Many individuals discover that serving as a trustee is a rewarding way to contribute to their community. Additionally, it allows them to enhance their skills and acquire experience in a non-executive director role.
